Located in the small coastal community of Himatangi beach in the North Island of New Zealand is Aotearoa’s first spirulina farm. They combined the quality and taste of the French artisan production model with New Zealand excellence in food innovation and safety.

I was tasked with creating a meaningful logo mark and an eye-catching package for Tahi, named for being the first of its kind.

You can find Tahi Spirulina at a variety of health stores around New Zealand, Moore Wilson’s, or buy directly online.

Tahi Spirulina

I customised the logotype to create a ‘1’ within the ‘T’. By doing this, we created more meaning and ownability by substracting, which is often the case when it’s thought through nicely.

Out of necessity, we went with recyclable pouches for the product, which can’t be exposed to daylight. Competing products use similar pouches, so we made sure to contrast with their heavy printing and clutter. The pouch is recyclable, meaning it has an off-white base colour that contrasts beautifully with the Tahi green.

Product photography by Origin Eight heightens and clarifies the front messaging, and by sculpting the spirulina on the back into a New Zealand map, the story is clear.
